Cristina Cabral

Cristina is a Doctoral Researcher, and a Diversity and the Media Lecturer with extensive experience in the media field, and research methods.

She is passionate about Diversity and Inclusion, and loves to create engaging content that challenges the negative stereotypes of marginalised groups portrayed in the mainstream media and the Film Industry. She genuinely believes in the power of representation and empowers her students to use their voices, share their stories, and create impactful and creative work that represents their cultural background.

Hae Su Shin is a London-based motion graphic designer and content producer with a strong commitment to promoting African cultures through visual storytelling. She earned her M.A. in African Studies from SOAS, University of London, in 2025, deepening her academic understanding of the continent’s cultural and social dynamics.

Each contribution helps shape a series that is both intimate and expansive — grounded in real experiences, yet crafted with cinematic care, research, and creative intention.
Together, the team builds more than a documentary. They help create a living archive of voices,
perspectives, and stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and remembered.

Cristina Cabral

Cristina is a Doctoral Researcher, and a Diversity and the Media Lecturer with extensive experience in the media field, and research methods. She is passionate about Diversity and Inclusion, and loves to create engaging content that challenges the negative stereotypes of marginalised groups portrayed in the mainstream media and the Film Industry. She genuinely believes in the power of representation and empowers her students to use their voices, share their stories, and create impactful and creative work that represents their cultural background. She is a third-year PhD Researcher at SOAS in the Cultural Industries programme producing innovative series of documentaries Exploring activism around Blackness in Children’s Cultural Industries in the UK. Research interests As a Doctoral Researcher, Cristina is currently producing a practice-led PhD, where she can incorporate innovative Visual Methods and filmmaking as a weapon to decolonise screen studies. As a filmmaker, Cristina produced and directed the award-winning documentary “I am Creola”, about her first travel to Cape Verde with her children, a story of identity and cultural heritage. Cristina also directed the documentary, “Where Are the Brown Dolls”, an autoethnographic investigative film about the lack of representation of Black Dolls in UK Toy Shops. After releasing this documentary and obtaining a Master’s in Diversity and the Media, Cristina was invited to numerous seminars and workshops worldwide in institutions such as Imperial College, LSE, and the University of Lagos. Cristina is also a Multimedia Journalist and a Diversity and Media Lecturer. In her teaching, she raises awareness for the need to see people for their uniqueness and uses an intersectional approach to decolonise the current visual methods. Cristina is also the Co-Founder of Black Europeans, an anti-racist organisation that fights systemic racism. She is also a Research Assistant and Multimedia Content Producer at Kings College London, creating engaging videos and multimedia content for the African Hub for Sustainable Creative Economies project. She is also the editor of the podcast Africa Fashion Futures and edited a series of fascinating episodes, such as Africa Fashion Week with Queen Ronke Ademiluyi–Ogunwusi. Cristina is originally from the Cape Verde Islands and is passionate about Filmmaking, Lusophony Studies, and Social Justice. She started her media career when she moved from Lisbon to the USA. She worked as a financial reporter on Wall Street in New York and studied documentary in the 21st century at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Hae Su Shin

Hae Su Shin is a London-based motion graphic designer and content producer with a strong commitment to promoting African cultures through visual storytelling. She earned her M.A. in African Studies from SOAS, University of London, in 2025, deepening her academic understanding of the continent’s cultural and social dynamics. Combining her creative expertise with scholarly insight, she creates visual art and video content that build meaningful bridges between Korea and Africa, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and appreciation. She is also the creator of AFROHADA, a YouTube channel that explores and documents contemporary urban cultures across Africa.

Hae Su joins as a motion graphic designer for Cristina’s documentary project, which reclaims the representation of Black British life in the UK. She finds purpose in illuminating everyday heroes and challenging stereotypes through compelling visual narratives. With a deep sense of responsibility, she seeks to translate the experiences of oppression and resilience within the Black British community into powerful visual forms that evoke empathy and challenge perceptions.

Paula Moreira

Paula Moreira is the Communication and Outreach Manager of Cabo Verde Digital, a Cape Verdean government institution, as well as a filmmaker, producer, and Cape Verdean photographer passionate about realistic storytelling. She stands out for her unique creative approach and her commitment to giving voice to original African narratives. As the co-founder of the digital television platform Tabanka TV and founder of Badia Productions, she has played a vital role in producing digital segments, short films, collaborative documentaries, and campaigns that reflect the richness and complexity of African and diaspora experiences. Beyond her artistic work, Paula is deeply committed to community activism, using her communication and digital strategy skills to inspire positive change. With her extensive audiovisual experience, she brings immense value to the Cabo Verde Digital team, helping create engaging content and promoting strategic partnerships that encourage the Cape Verdean community — at home and abroad — to actively participate in the development of the national digital ecosystem.

Fernando Ribeiro

Fernando Ribeiro is a Brazilian creative director, filmmaker and founder of MLX Digital, a marketing and audiovisual production agency that connects storytelling, technology and strategy. With over a decade of experience in visual communication, he specializes in building powerful narratives through documentary editing, branded content and digital storytelling for impactful projects in Brazil and the UK.

Through MLX Digital, Fernando has collaborated with brands, artists and institutions across multiple industries, producing compelling narratives that combine technical precision with emotional resonance. His expertise includes directing and editing visual campaigns, shaping narratives through interview-based documentaries and creating immersive digital experiences through web development and social media strategy.

As part of Cristina Cabral’s research team, Fernando and his agency are responsible for developing the project’s official website, the editing of the documentary series, capturing all aerial footage as the project’s videographer for drone scenes and interview editing. He sees this project as a meaningful opportunity to amplify Black voices and experiences in the UK, helping to weave stories of identity, culture and resistance into a collective visual memory.

For Fernando, each frame is more than an image. It is a bridge between people, places and histories. His contribution to the project reflects his commitment to using storytelling as a tool for social connection and transformation.

David Ollybeatz

David Ollybeatz is a versatile music producer, sound engineer, and artist developer known for his unique blend of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Afrobeat sounds. With years of experience producing for top talents in Nigeria and the UK, his craft merges technical precision with emotional storytelling.
His credits include original scores, soundtrack production for film and television (including Dr. Lazer aired on Africa Magic), and collaborations with artists across different genres. As both a producer and an artist, David continues to push creative boundaries while mentoring emerging talents through his production brand David Ollybeatz production.
Beyond production, he’s passionate about sound design, composition, and bringing authentic African influences to global platforms.

I’m so honoured to be a part of crisitina’s wonderful team for a powerful new documentary exploring the experiences of Black people living in the UK. The project aims to highlight real stories of identity, culture, and resilience, giving voice to a community that continues to shape British society in diverse and meaningful ways. I’m excited to contribute my skills and perspective to help bring these stories to life on screen. This project holds deep personal meaning for me. Through working on the documentary, I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people and learning from their diverse experiences. Each day brings new insights and inspiration, and I’m truly grateful for the mentorship, collaboration, and sense of belonging that come with being part of this journey.

Jadilson Lima

Jadilson Lima is a Brazilian cinematographer and editor, born in Teresina (Piauí), and raised on the outskirts of the South Zone of São Paulo. His perspective in audiovisual work is shaped by territory and lived experiences, as well as his degree in Psychology from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, which broadens his interest in capturing narratives and constructing images. He aims to become a leading director of photography. Since 2024, he has been working as a videomaker and video editor in the capital of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, and in São Paulo, mainly in the fields of fashion, music, and the arts, building a solid body of work that drives his professional development.

Orion

Orion is an editor from Paraná, Brazil, whose work is marked by a natural sensitivity to storytelling and rhythm. Having contributed to two episodes with a distinctive narrative approach, he demonstrated a strong ability to shape emotion and continuity through editing, delivering a compelling and cohesive viewing experience. As an editor, creator, and producer at MLX Digital he operates across both artistic and commercial fields, bringing versatility and a refined creative vision to each project. In addition to his work behind the scenes, he is also a professional actor, which deepens his understanding of performance and enhances his editorial decisions. A full-time editor, Orion continues to expand his craft, combining technical precision with a storyteller’s intuition to create engaging and impactful audiovisual narratives.
